Appvion launches ThermaEndure direct thermal platform

The platform targets applications requiring greater resistance, durability and image longevity, with initial film and label products now available for evaluation.

Appvion has announced the launch of ThermaEndure, a new direct thermal technology platform designed to provide enhanced resistance, durability and image longevity for demanding labeling and packaging applications.

The first products introduced under the platform are ThermaEndure Film 3.0 and ThermaEndure Label 3.0 E. Both are currently in development, with technical data sheets and samples available for customers interested in evaluating the materials for specific applications.

According to Appvion, ThermaEndure combines the company’s materials science and water-based coating technology to help printed information remain clear and readable in environments where conventional direct thermal materials may not provide sufficient long-term image durability.

“With the launch of ThermaEndure, we are taking another important step in our continued investment in next-generation direct thermal solutions,” says Linnea Keen, president of Appvion. “By staying closely connected to our customers and the evolving needs of the market, we are developing technologies that deliver greater durability and functionality while expanding the possibilities of direct thermal.”

The initial launch includes both a film and a label-weight paper grade. Appvion says it plans to expand ThermaEndure with future tag products, with the broader platform eventually encompassing direct thermal papers, films, labels and tags offering enhanced resistance properties and image longevity.

“ThermaEndure was developed to address applications where long-term image durability is critical and traditional direct thermal solutions have been ineffective,” says Mitch Seablom, senior product manager at Appvion. “The launch of a label-weight paper grade gives customers an opportunity to evaluate the technology, provide feedback, and work directly with our team as we continue expanding the broader platform.”

To distinguish the developmental products from its commercially available materials, Appvion is using blue ThermaEndure technical data sheets. The company’s market-ready products will continue to use its established red technical data sheet format.

Appvion will feature ThermaEndure samples and technical information at LOUPE Americas in Booth 503.
